The Other Side of Grace

Yes, God is a forgiving God who realizes our weaknesses as humans and enables us to be restored to good standing with Him after we’ve fallen short of his will for our lives. However, we should not be fooled into
thinking that we have gotten away with anything when we sin or try to take advantage of God’s grace by continuing in action we know is not pleasing to Him.

There are consequences to disobeying God even after a person has committed him or herself to God and lived according to his will for some time.  Below are several examples:

The nation of Israel – God delivered them from the bondage of Egypt, but after they forsook him to worship idols, many were killed in the wilderness.

David– Was a beloved ruler of Israel who is credited with writing much of Psalms and doing many great things for God. In his adult life however, he was found guilty of both murder and adultery. Consequences included
the death of one of his children and rebellion against his authority from other children.

Fallen angels – Angels are depicted in scripture as messengers, warriors, and special servants of God with unique abilities. Yet, even angels who do not stay within the confines of God’s authority are being kept in chains until their day of judgment.

So, remember that God is forgiving, but don’t think that because God will forgive us that we will escape punishment in this life for our sins.  We only deceive ourselves when we intentionally sin with the thought that we will ask for forgiveness later.

There are consequences.
