Sin After Salvation
So, you have made a commitment to lead a life that honors God, been baptized, and are now walking out the Christian life when you find yourself engaged in activity you know is outside of God’s will. Perhaps you have even been leading a church bible study for the last 3 years.
What do you do? Upon recognizing that your behavior is sinful, the appropriate action is to ask God’s forgiveness and make a sincere effort to not repeat the sin. This may involve a mere change of heart or it may involve more effort such as change of friends or avoidance of visiting places where sin is likely to take place.
The important thing to remember is that God is a forgiving God. The bible states that a righteous man may fall several times but gets back up.
There are times when we mistakenly sin, and there are times when we know something is wrong and we continue to repeat it. Now apart from God’s mercy, we will likely suffer consequences from our sinful/inappropriate actions but God will forgive us and permit us to regain right relationship with him.
Christians must remember that the only perfect man to ever live was Christ. He died to pay the penalty for our sins – past, present, and future because it is impossible for us to not sin.
Now this does not give us a license to sin at will and then ask for forgiveness. For there are consequences to sin and one may find themselves in such a state where pride, warped thinking, or guilt may keep you from asking for God’s forgiveness and seeking to live a Godly life. We don’t want to play this dangerous game and suffer the consequence of eternal punishment. Eternity is a long time.
Whether you have been living a Christian life for 3 days or 30 years, God’s love and forgiveness is available to those who ask his forgiveness and to those who make a sincere effort to live according to his standards.
