Relationships with Parents
The dynamics of the parent-child relationship often evolves during young adulthood. Although still maturing, young adults can typically converse with parents differently during this phase of life. Through personal experience and their relationships with Christ, young adults have often matured spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
During this period of life, it’s important to remember to honor your parents. Although you are now an adult, your parents have reared you and enabled you to arrive at your present stage of life. Even if your parents weren’t ideal, with God’s help, you can hopefully at least maintain an appreciation for the fact that it is through them that you came to exist and have life.
One way to honor your parents is to maintain contact with them if possible. It is also important to note that parents should not be overly involved in the affairs or marriage of their adult children. Advice is good, but at this stage of life, it is likely out of order for parents to impose their wills upon their adult children, particularly those who are married.
Take advantage of this season with your parents to honor them, seek advice, enjoy friendships, and perhaps even enjoy a newfound relationship between you, them, and grandchildren.
