Choosing a College Major

So what do I want to do for the rest of my life? This is a question many who are about to enter college ask themselves. The advantage for those who have a relationship with God is that they can trust God to guide them.

The Bible says to acknowledge God in all your ways and He will direct your paths. Your college major may lead to a profession through which you spend a good portion of your adult life, but for many people it does not.  Many work in fields unrelated to their degrees. Just know that the steps of the righteous are  ordered.

One suggestion for identifying a major that suits you is to identify areas in which God has given you success
in the past. For instance, God blessed David with success in battle over both a lion and Goliath.  David went on to be a great military leader for the people of Israel.

God blessed Joseph to be a good leader both in the house of Potipher and when wrongly imprisoned.
Joseph went on to be a great leader over Egypt.

Another suggestion is to listen to the advice of parents.  Having known you before you really knew yourself, parents often have great insight into God’s plan for you and at times can help identify your strengths.
Isaac and Rebekah were given insight regarding Jacob’s future as were Zaccharias and Elizabeth concerning John the Baptist.

These are but a few suggestions.  The objective is to seek the advice of your Creator who knows us better than we know ourselves.
